Job Description

KMJ's client is currently seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join their team. Our client performs landscape construction on large public infrastructure projects (DOT, Transit, etc), university campuses and large commercial projects throughout New Jersey.

Typical scope of work includes Earthwork/Grading/Excavation, Planting of all kinds, Wetland mitigation, Erosion control, Hardscape, Watermain, Concrete and Asphalt work, General site work and light demolition.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning: Supervise the Project from Internal Kick-Off to close out, drive the project to meet critical schedule dates and budgets. Pre-plan activities with goal of beating labor budgets.
  • Manpower: Evaluate manpower and provide sufficient notice to office in case of layoff or staffing needs.
  • Productivity/Labor/Equipment: Ensure that Projects assigned are set up to succeed and be most efficient.
  • Cashflow: Ensure all T&M tickets are generated and signed within 24 hours of the work. Identify extra work and get appropriate approvals. Code and submit all receivers to office daily.
  • Subcontractor Management: Hold Subcontractors to the same high standards to which we hold ourselves including safety and best practices. Enforce the terms of the Subcontract and be friendly, fair, and firm.
  • Safety: Ensures that proper safety planning is included in all pre-job planning and considered foremost in the daily operations. Provides a safe work environment through creating a culture of safety for the project and holding each individual on the project accountable for safe behavior. Ensures appropriate PPE and safety gear / equipment is utilized on site at all times. Regularly holds safety meetings and makes sure that OSHA standards and the company’s safety policies are being enforced.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or relevant field experience
  • 2+ years of construction experience, specifically with field supervision
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies related to earthwork, grading, excavation, drainage, utilities and other general sitework. Landscape and Hardscape experience is preferred.
