Job Description

The Construction Site Supervisor plays a key role in advancing Habitat Dutchess’s mission by overseeing residential construction projects from start to finish. This position leads and mentors volunteers and partner families on-site, ensuring a safe, productive, and empowering build experience. Ideal candidates bring construction expertise, strong leadership skills, and a passion for working with diverse groups to create lasting community impact. The Site Supervisor works as part of the Construction Department to oversee and perform onsite construction activities, including home builds, rehabs, and repairs. This work involves carpentry work, demolition activities, interior and exterior finishing, and scoping and assessing repairs. The Site Supervisor is one of the most visible points of contact for Habitat homebuyers, homeowners, volunteers, donors, and community members. As such, they should be knowledgeable about Habitat Dutchess’ mission and believe strongly in our organization’s guiding principles. This position is responsible for ensuring the sites are prepared for the daily construction activities by maintaining organization of the construction storage areas and construction sites and ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained. The Site Supervisor will be required to perform certain construction tasks themselves. This position will ensure adherence to all federal, state, local and Habitat for Humanity International codes for volunteers, employees and sub-contractors. The regular workweek for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30am-4:30pm, but hours can be flexed when needed.


Essential Functions [E]:
Management of job site: Create a supportive, hands-on learning environment on the job site to empower and educate volunteers in construction skills and safety practices. Ensure volunteers sign in on tablet and/or fill out volunteer waiver. Conduct and/or delegate tasks and safety talks at the start of each job day. Ensure all safety policies/procedures are being followed in day-to-day activities. Ensure job sites are clean at the end of the day and at the end of each project. Ensure all required materials and tools are on site prior to the start of the workday so that volunteer time is effectively utilized and work proceeds without interruption.

New Construction: Supervise and support all subcontractors to ensure projects are completed according to subcontractor agreements and meet or exceed Habitat’s standards in quality and safety. Conduct walk-through inspection with family upon completion of the home and coordinate with the Senior Project Director any Corrections of defects or any items requiring attention. Attend groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies.

Home Repair Tasks: Supervise and/or perform all hands-on construction tasks required on job site. Conduct work scopes as assigned by Senior Project Director. All work must be completed to Habitat construction standards, completed on schedule and within budget.

Volunteer & Homeowner Engagement: Engage volunteers and partner homeowners in core program functions, with a focus on inclusive, trauma-informed practices that support vulnerable populations such as veterans, seniors, and low-income families. Ensure meaningful engagement of volunteers including assigning tasks appropriate for all skill levels, instruction, oversight and any needed corrective actions throughout the work.

Construction Software: Utilize Jobber to schedule work scopes, track job progress, and maintain communication with clients and Habitat Dutchess’ staff.

Communication: Utilize Microsoft Teams, email, text messages, and other forms of communication for timely information sharing regarding clients and projects.

Construction Vehicle/Storage: Utilize company issued box truck during the workday, keep construction box truck and construction pod clean, safe and organized.

Management of Materials & Tools: Ensure all tools are on site and conduct safety reviews of tools. Pick up or delivery of materials in a timely manner.

Office: Weekly meetings with Senior Project Director to review current schedule, progress, and future projects. Attendance at other meetings may be required.

Requirements [E]:
* Knowledge and experience with construction, especially in carpentry.
* Ability to read and interpret standard residential construction blueprints and specifications.
* Physical Demands: Strenuous activity requiring ability to sit, walk, carry, push, pull, lift up to 50lbs, climb, and bend.
* Working Conditions: Exposure to loud noises and other working conditions associated with construction and outdoor work.
* Background and DMV check required. Must pass a DMV license check according to insurance requirements.
* Ability to operate cellphones, tablets and computers. Must pass a DMV license check according to insurance requirements.
* Ability to operate cellphones, tablets, and computers.
* Ability to work in Microsoft M365 [Word, Planner, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
* Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and software to continuously use current practices and technology.
* Flexibility regarding work assignments and work hours.
* Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
* Strong communications skills and interpersonal skills.
* Must complete Habitat for Humanity International’s Competent Person certification within the first 7 days of employment.

This is a full-time exempt position, with a starting salary of $60,000. Benefits offered include Health Insurance, Dental, AFLAC, and paid time off. Flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours as needed is required for meetings and special events. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel required. The Site Supervisor will likely spend on average of at least 5 days per week (40 hours per week, 8 work hours per day). Critical times may require more hours.
