SUMMARY The Security Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of building security at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC). This leadership role ensures the safety and protection of personnel, property and operations within the facility. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Security (MDS), the Security Director develops and implements comprehensive security strategies and collaborates with key stakeholders to maintain a secure and resilient environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)
- Manages VMAC security as it relates to the building, employees, property and equipment in collaboration with the MDS and Security Manager
- Provides a professional interface with the public to include a high emotional intelligence and ability to de-escalate high stakes situations
- Communicates clearly, consistently and timely, any unusual occurrences or irregularities of security events, training or issues that may arise
- Ensures that the necessary security measures are in place providing protection against threats
- Develops an efficient and effective security operations program
- Fosters and maintains excellent working relationships with all internal and external contacts, including retail vendors, League personnel, law enforcement officials, players, staff and ownership
- Proactively researches and executes under the guidance and approval of the MDS, new opportunities to improve the overall security posture of the building and its employees, including staying current with new security trends and technology
- Leads the Safety Committee with the implementation and maintenance of the building’s safety plan and code compliance, in conjunction with the Renton Fire Department. Assists with seeking corrective actions as identified and required by code
- Completes required documentation and maintains the safety manual for the Safety Committee
- Notifies the building occupants of Fire Department operations and updates as needed in collaboration with Director of Facilities. Assists with evacuation during fire or emergency situations
- Conducts background investigations when needed
- Monitor and provides security during team practices and walkthroughs as needed
- Adheres to and demonstrates the Seahawks core values at all times
- Prepare and submits security reports, documenting incidents and recommendations for improvement
- Ensures the post event reporting is completed and provided immediately following major events to the MDS and others, to include the Chief of Human Resources
- Assists as directed with the administration of the Emergency Management program, (Titan HST) ensuring all VMAC employees are familiar with policy and procedures through training opportunities and briefings, to include annual emergency evacuation drills and as appropriate tabletop exercises
- Assists Human Resources in collection, reporting and documentation of injuries and accidents related to workers compensation and general liability claims; ensuring the documentation is complete and provided to Human Resources and the MDS in a timely manner and within any State mandated deadlines related to workers compensation claims
- Assists with the administration of all physical security systems, including, but not limited to, access control, video surveillance cameras, duress alarms, intrusion alarms and fire panels. Ensures proper responses are made in a timely manner to all activations and are documented
- Identifies security vulnerabilities and develops strategies to mitigate or eliminate the identified threats
- Completes special projects and tasks assigned and within specified deadlines
- Reviews, evaluates and approves incident reports and other documentation prepared by Security staff regarding investigations of theft, accidents, safety violations and all other issues encountered while on duty. Ensures reports are documented and filed electronically using the organization’s software and databases dedicated to recordkeeping
- Works special events, to include home football games, Training Camp and other special events hosted at VMAC. Including as requested by MDS, occasional player functions, public appearances, community outreach events
- Demonstrates in all aspects of job performance, a service-oriented attitude along with the outstanding interpersonal skills expected of all VMAC staff and especially management personnel
- Conducts other duties as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises, manages and provides effective leadership to the security team and ensures that resources are appropriately and efficiently allocated to key areas of work and that priorities are always covered adequately.
- Provides specialized training in emergency preparedness, AED, CPR, de-escalation
- In collaboration with the Security Manager, conducts annual performance reviews; coaching and mentoring staff as appropriate to meet job expectations and performance levels
- Counsels and disciplines employees as needed, documenting any corrective actions administered. Develops and manages Performance Improvement Plans to correct deficient work behaviors, to include preparing detailed written records of all related activities
- Supports the VMAC Security Manager with the scheduling and payroll processes when needed, ensuring proper staffing levels are maintained during scheduled vacations, sick time and call-offs
- Assists with the hiring process for both full and part-time Security staff, to include special events, such as Training Camp and off-site player outings when requested
Home Game Responsibilities- To assist the Managing Director of Security, MDS - Assist with security operations specific to home gamedays at Lumen Field
- Supervise and deploy security personnel to designated posts (Locker Room Door), ensuring adequate coverage throughout team security areas of responsibilities. Per NFL security best practices and direction of MDS
- Serve as an extra point of contact for security-related issues during home games, working closely with stadium operations, law enforcement and emergency services as well as player engagement for the friends and family area
- Able to fill in for MDS at pre-game security briefings with staff to review assignments, emergency procedures and communication protocols if directed by the MDS
- Monitor crowd behavior and respond to incidents in real-time, ensuring a safe and secure environment for fans, players and staff
- Ensure compliance with NFL security standards and protocols during all home games
- Support VIP and credentialed guest access control, ensuring proper screening and escorting as needed
- Assist with the coordination of ingress and egress traffic flow to minimize congestion and ensure safety
- Supports stadium staff for gameday, media and vendors, ensuring access control policies are strictly followed
- Conduct walkthroughs of the stadium prior to opening gates to identify and address any potential security or safety concerns
- Participate in post-game debriefings to evaluate performance, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions
- Support lost and found operations and other unusual occurrences for players and staff on gameday
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the sidelines pre and post-game to deter incidents and provide leadership and support to security personnel
Minimum Qualifications - Minimum of five years of experience in law enforcement, military or private sector security organization
- Five or more years of progressive supervisory/management responsibility in a related field
- Experience conducting investigations; i.e.: accidents involving property damage, workers compensation matters, fraudulent claims, criminal violations and/or misconduct by employees
- Proficient in the operation and use of various software applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and video management systems and sports and entertainment databases
- Demonstrated experience producing accurate reports and other documentation suitable for dissemination to senior management
- Proven professional during all interactions with others, especially in situations with conflicting perspectives/opinions or high stress incidents
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with a tactful and diplomatic communication style
- Demonstrated ability to easily work with other management personnel to achieve common goals
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations without compromising the integrity of the material or the situation, or the trust of others
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in security, criminal justice or a related field
- Three years or more of investigative experience
- NIMS and ICS certifications 100, 200, 300, 400
- Experience conducting threat and vulnerability assessments
- Experience working with a professional sports league in a security role
- Active membership in security related organizations that discuss and monitor current security industry standards and best practices
Special Requirements - Must be able to pass a background inquiry
- Must be able to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR/AED certification within 12 months of hire
- Must be able to obtain ICS certifications 100/200/700/800 within 18 months of hire
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS - May at times be exposed to varied weather conditions
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- The employee is frequently required to lift 25 pounds or more
- This job requires many hours of standing and walking during events and on gameday
- The employee must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by the Team schedule

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS - The salary range for this position is: $110,000 – $125,000. The salary range applies to the current posting.
