FLSA Class: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Hourly Wage: $16/hour (20 hours per week) - 2 positions available

Reports to: Facilities Manager

General Summary:

The Groundskeeper will be responsible for monitoring and cultivating the landscape and natural

borders on and surrounding all the property on the campus and detached rental properties.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Cultivates, prunes, sprays, fertilizes, plants, and transplants wide variety of shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.
• Waters shrubbery, hedges, seedlings, flowers and lawns.
• Prepares propagation beds, potting materials, and tropical plantings.
• Pots, sprays, and waters greenhouse plants, flowers, and shrubs
• Cuts grass using power or hand mowers as needed
• Trims and edges sidewalks, driveways, and flower beds
• Cuts weeds and brush and removes leaves and rubbish from grounds.
• Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Education and Experience:
• High school diploma required.
• Six (6) months experiences as a Groundskeeper Assistant or equivalent
• Valid State of Texas Driver’s License required

Work Environment and Physical Demand

• • Physical Strength: Groundskeepers are often required to lift and move heavy objects, such as bags of fertilizer, tools, equipment, or debris. Many positions specify the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with some requiring up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Stamina: The work often involves prolonged periods of physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Being able to sustain these activities, potentially under demanding conditions like heat or cold, is essential.
  • Mobility: The ability to move freely in and around buildings and grounds is crucial. This includes navigating uneven terrain, ascending or descending ladders or stairs, and working in tight or confined spaces.
  • Hand-Eye Coordination and Dexterity: Operating a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, from mowers and trimmers to chainsaws and specialized machinery, requires good coordination and dexterity.
  • Visual Abilities: Close vision for tasks like reading instructions or identifying pests, as well as the ability to adjust focus, are often listed as requirements.
  • Other Requirements: Depending on the specific job, there may be requirements for operating a motor vehicle, which necessitates a valid Texas driver's license. Some positions may also prefer or require certifications related to irrigation or chemical application

  Working conditions

  • Outdoor Environment: Groundskeepers primarily work outdoors, exposing them to a range of temperatures and weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, and wind.

This position is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 52.215(c) states:

The Texas Education Code, § 51.215(c) says: Security-sensitive positions shall be restricted to

employees who handle currency, have access to a computer terminal, have access to a master

key or who work in an area designated a security sensitive area. "Computer terminal" is construed

to mean a computer.
