Job Description

Title: Groundskeeper

Department: Facilities

Type: Group 4/ Campus Support Staff (S3)

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Hourly Wage: $16/hour (20 hours per week) - 2 positions available

Reports to: Facilities Manager

General Summary:

The Groundskeeper will be responsible for monitoring and cultivating the landscape and natural

borders on and surrounding all the property on the campus and detached rental properties.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Cultivates, prunes, sprays, fertilizes, plants, and transplants wide variety of shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.
  • Waters shrubbery, hedges, seedlings, flowers and lawns.
  • Prepares propagation beds, potting materials, and tropical plantings.
  • Pots, sprays, and waters greenhouse plants, flowers, and shrubs
  • Cuts grass using power or hand mowers as needed
  • Trims and edges sidewalks, driveways, and flower beds
  • Cuts weeds and brush and removes leaves and rubbish from grounds.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Six (6) months experiences as a Groundskeeper Assistant or equivalent
  • Valid State of Texas Driver’s License required

    • Hand-Eye Coordination and Dexterity: Operating a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, from mowers and trimmers to chainsaws and specialized machinery, requires good coordination and dexterity.
    • Visual Abilities: Close vision for tasks like reading instructions or identifying pests, as well as the ability to adjust focus, are often listed as requirements.
    • Other Requirements: Depending on the specific job, there may be requirements for operating a motor vehicle, which necessitates a valid Texas driver's license. Some positions may also prefer or require certifications related to irrigation or chemical application

    Working conditions
