The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is looking for a leader who understands that protecting data is also about protecting California’s natural legacy.
As one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, California depends on CDFW to safeguard its wildlife. But in today’s digital world, that mission extends into cyberspace. That’s where you come in.
CDFW is seeking a seasoned and strategic Information Technology Manager I to serve as the Chief of the Information Security & Privacy Office (ISPO). This isn’t just a technical role—it’s a leadership position at the intersection of technology, policy, and environmental stewardship.
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you’ll guide a team of professionals dedicated to cybersecurity, privacy, and eDiscovery. You’ll be the Department’s Information Security Officer, responsible for ensuring that sensitive data—from wildlife tracking to personnel records—is protected with the highest standards of integrity and compliance.
But your impact won’t stop there. You’ll shape department-wide IT security and privacy policies, lead risk assessments, and collaborate with legal, HR, and law enforcement teams on complex data requests. You’ll also mentor the next generation of IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on complexity, communicates with clarity, and leads with purpose. You’ll need a strong background in enterprise IT systems, risk management, and project leadership. But just as important is your ability to think strategically, act with integrity, and inspire others to do the same.
In return, you’ll join a mission-driven organization that values diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance. With a hybrid work schedule and opportunities for professional growth, this is more than a job—it’s a chance to make a difference.
If you’re ready to lead with purpose and protect what matters most, CDFW is ready for you.
