Position: Lighting Technician Intern

Summary :

The Lighting Tech Intern at Gateway Studios & Production Services plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of the lighting department. The Lighting Intern will learn and perform various kinds of skills, such as looming and pulling cables, setting up and testing technical equipment, building shows in house, etc. Working right alongside some of the leading lighting professionals in the field, the Lighting Intern will gain knowledge and experience, create relationships, and develop skills that they will be able to use throughout their career.

INTERNSHIP OUTCOME

Learning Objective:

Pull and Loom Cables:

• Pull and test cables, ensuring that all cables are working properly.
• Learn how to lay out and tripe cables together.
• Organize and track cables in a way that follows company guidelines.

Set up and Test Moving Lights:

• Organize and clean moving lights in such a way that meets company standards.
• Learn how to set up moving lights in preparation for upcoming events.
• Learn how to hang moving lights to rigs.

Set up and Test Lighting Fixtures:

• Assist Lighting Technicians in the setup of lighting fixtures.
• Learn how to test fixtures with the show file for the event, ensuring that they're properly prepared for the upcoming event.
• Organize and maintain quality control of all lighting fixtures.

Set up and Test AC Distros:

• Learn how to set up and power AC distros.
• Test circuits, ensuring that they're working properly for upcoming events.
• Assist Lighting Technicians in the maintenance and organization of AC distros.

Set up and Test Lighting Consoles:

• Learn how to set up lighting consoles in preparation for upcoming shows.
• Test lighting consoles to ensure that they're functioning properly for upcoming events.
• Assist Lighting Technicians with the maintenance and preparation of all lighting consoles.

Build Shows in House:

• Assist touring crews in the assembly and disassembly of full lighting rig for upcoming events.
• Shadow Lighting Technicians and assist in the setup of upcoming events.

Assist in Other Departments:

• Assist technicians in other departments on an as needed basis.

Attendance:

• Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.

Any and all other duties:

• To be determined by supervisor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

• College student pursuing a degree in a related field.
• Young professional with a degree or work experience in a related field
• Attending classes that pertain to the internship position.

Skills/Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of equipment and industry terminology.
• Willingness to learn and ability to follow direction.
• Aptitude for grasping technical skills.
• Great attitude and open-mindedness.

Course Prerequisites:

• N/A – but must have a keen interest in learning about the field.
