Job Title: Network Security Engineer

Location: Houston, TX (100% Onsite Northwest Houston)
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract (1+ Year)
Compensation: $110 $124 per hour

Job Summary

We are seeking a Network Security Engineer with strong expertise in cybersecurity, cloud security, SDLC environments, and large-scale enterprise infrastructure. This position will work hands-on with security architecture, cloud security posture, identity management, network protection, and compliance enforcement across hybrid cloud and big data environments.

The engineer will support cross-functional teams-including Security & Compliance, Big Data, Infrastructure, Applications, and Cloud Operations-to ensure the secure design, implementation, and management of enterprise cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities Network & Cloud Security Engineering
  • Implement, manage, and secure cloud network environments (Azure, AWS) including VPCs, firewalls, WAF, routing, and secure connectivity.

  • Oversee and enhance network security architecture , ensuring alignment with corporate and regulatory requirements.

  • Configure and maintain network-level IAM integrations , secure access controls, MFA, and identity governance tools.

  • Implement encryption , secure key management, data protection strategies, and defense-in-depth across cloud and on-prem systems.

  • Support migration of on-premise environments to cloud data platforms , ensuring secure connectivity and data flow.

Security Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure all network/security implementations adhere to industry security frameworks and internal security policies.

  • Support risk assessments, threat modeling, and mitigation planning.

  • Implement controls aligned to: NIST, CIS Benchmarks, cloud shared responsibility models, and security best practices.

  • Evaluate network and cloud architectures for compliance and propose remediation strategies.

Technical Operations & SDLC Security
  • Integrate security throughout the SDLC including design review, secure configuration, secure deployment, and testing.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to embed security guardrails across infrastructure, data pipelines, and application deployments.

  • Troubleshoot network, cloud connectivity, IAM, encryption, and security configuration issues across the enterprise.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with architects, cloud teams, security analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure secure solutions.

  • Provide technical guidance on network and cloud security risks, priorities, and recommended controls.

  • Prepare technical documentation, diagrams, and security configuration standards.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years of experience in network security engineering or enterprise cybersecurity.

  • Strong experience securing Azure and AWS cloud environments .

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Network security

    • Firewalls, routing, segmentation

    • VPN, tunneling, secure connectivity

    • IAM, authentication, authorization

    • Encryption, key management

    • Data protection & cloud architecture

    • Risk management, threat modeling, defense-in-depth

  • Understanding of SDLC, DevOps, cloud-native development , and how security integrates with each.

  • Experience implementing or adhering to security standards and frameworks .

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple teams and projects.

Preferred (Nice to Have)
  • Security Certifications: CISSP, CCSP, CCSK, Security+

  • Project management familiarity (PMP or equivalent)

  • Experience with cloud transformation or cloud data platform migrations.

  • Experience with Monday.com or similar workflow tools.
