Reports to: Director of Admissions

Salary: $30,202.90 annual salary

College Background:

Paul Smith’s College is a private, four-year institution with approximately 750 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Known as the “College of the Adirondacks,” we are the only baccalaureate and graduate degree granting institution located within the six-million-acre, world-famous, “forever-wild” Adirondacks in New York’s North Country.

Position Description:

We are seeking candidates for the position of Admissions Counselor, with a focus on Transfer Undergraduate admissions. The Admissions Counselor is a key member of the Admissions staff who recruits students from colleges and high schools, and counsels students and possibly parents regarding the admissions process. The admissions staff is a collaborative group that is student-centered and dedicated to finding and recruiting students who are a great fit for the college. Our team thrives on building great relationships through extensive interaction with prospective students, guidance counselors, and the campus community and our ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, professional, creative, and relational.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the leadership of Admissions and Enrollment Management, develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and matriculate graduate and transfer students.
  • Develop virtual and help coordinate in-person travel such as transfer colleges, attending graduate and college fairs, classroom presentations, developing regional recruitment programs as necessary, and attending other on- and off-campus events that will positively promote Paul Smith’s College’s Undergraduate programs.
  • Communicate and cultivate relationships with faculty, guidance counselors and instructors in assigned territory.
  • Manage the case load related to the assigned territory including implementation of various elements of the Paul Smith’s College recruitment communication plan, counseling prospective students regarding the admissions process, admissions application processing, transcript evaluation, and transfer evaluations
  • Meet with prospective students to counsel them on completing entry requirements, discuss academic programs and financial aid opportunities, and conduct campus tours.
  • Perform timely transfer evaluations for accepted students.
  • Work with any office personnel on campus involved in the recruitment process.
  • Meet or exceed enrollment goals for assigned territory.
  • Follow up with prospects and applicants by phone, e-mail, and direct mail correspondence.
  • Work fluently within the Slate CRM platform to pull reports and data about recruiting territory.
  • Assist with related duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions, the Director of Graduate Admissions, and the Vice President for Enrollment Management.
  • In-person position. Occasional remote work flexibility.

Qualifications and Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Graduate degree or coursework welcomed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and make a positive impression on prospective students, their parents and high school guidance counselors.
  • Ability to understand and present essential information about the College and its programs.
  • Sensitivity and commitment to issues of access and inclusion.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive workplace.
  • A valid driver’s license and driver record that meets the standards of the College’s insurer.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs and set up a simple display.
  • Evening and weekend work may be sometimes required as well as limited travel.
