Job Description

The University of Alaska Southeast School of Arts & Sciences is accepting applications for an adjunct faculty member to instruct an undergraduate Spanish language course. This is a great opportunity for individuals seeking professional teaching experience who have a passion for educating others. Adjunct positions are filled on a temporary basis. The course is scheduled for the second semester and is expected to run from January to May 2026. The course will meet twice a week in the evenings from 5:30-7:30 pm. While students will attend in person and virtually, our preference is that instruction will occur on the UAS Juneau campus.

A successful candidate will encompass the following skills and abilities:
Knowledge of accepted instruction methods.
Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish both orally and in writing.
Public speaking skills.
Providing high-quality instruction through suitable academic preparation.
Familiar with computers and other technologies for instruction, such as Blackboard.

Previous online teaching experience and/or experience teaching Spanish as a second language is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Spanish (M.A. in Spanish or Spanish linguistics); OR 18 graduate credits in Spanish; OR a graduate-level degree from a university where Spanish was the language of instruction.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a part-time, adjunct faculty position represented by United Academic – Adjuncts, AAUP-AFT/AFL-CIO. Minimum salaries are set by the United Academic - Adjunct, AAUP-AT/AFL-CIO collective bargaining agreement. Salaries may vary based upon education and experience. 

This is an at-will, union represented adjunct position, and may be canceled based upon the needs of the university.
