About the Role & Program:

It’s the magic of immersing yourself in a motion picture masterpiece, or a new track from your favorite band, or the spectacle of a live Broadway show. It’s hard to define and even harder to create, but that’s what we do at The Walt Disney Studios. Ours is a culture of innovation, collaboration, and creativity. We raise the bar, then step over it, blazing trails through the production and distribution of world class entertainment around the globe. If you want to help, tell compelling, enduring stories through movies, music, or stage plays, then we want to hear from you.

As part of the Studio Technology organization, you will join a group of seasoned technologists dedicated to solving a range of creative problems through innovation, strategy, and forward thinking. This role sits within the Motion Picture Technology at Walt Disney Studios, which is a group of specialty film making labs providing production services, research, development, innovation, and support required for civilized filmmaking.

Working alongside the Image & Color Engineering team, you’ll gain hands-on experience with on-set capture validation, dailies color workflows, VFX review pipelines, and finishing color management. This internship offers exposure to the full image lifecycle — from camera capture through final master — while supporting active productions across The Walt Disney Studios. You’ll report to the Director of Image and Color Engineering.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Image & Color and Workflow Engineering teams in developing and testing end-to-end image and color workflows used across film production.
  • Assist in evaluating and prototyping AI/ML tools for image, video, and audio processing.
  • Help test and validate camera debayer and image processing pipelines within the Motion Picture Plates Lab.
  • Contribute to color management setup and testing for studio review systems such as RV and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Collaborate with engineers and artists to gather requirements, document findings, and help translate R&D concepts into production-ready tools.
  • Research and present emerging technologies in imaging, color science, computer vision, and generative AI relevant to studio workflows.
  • Participate in experimental and exploratory testing to help improve creative and technical production tools.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Familiarity with image processing concepts, color management, or visual effects workflows.
  • Interest in tools and platforms such as DaVinci Resolve, Nuke, Avid, Premiere, After Effects, or Baselight.
  • Exposure to or curiosity about ACES, OpenColorIO, and modern color pipelines.
  • Basic understanding of or interest in machine learning and its applications in imaging or media production.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn from creative and technical mentors.
  • Enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and proactive in exploring new imaging and color technologies.

Education:

  • Junior or Senior year preferred
  • Major or previous coursework in in Film Production, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Image Science, or a related technical field.
