Course Objective:

The course equips participants with essential area knowledge to excel in foreign affairs roles involving the Caribbean. It focuses on understanding the factors shaping modern political and economic structures in the region, emphasizing issues that influence relations with the United States. In addition, the course explores the social, political, and economic challenges facing each nation today and the key elements of U.S.-Caribbean relations.

Key Responsibilities:

Course Delivery: Organize and conduct the course either remotely or in person, ensuring alignment with instructional design principles.
Content Creation & Maintenance: Prepare engaging presentations and materials, ensuring they reflect up-to-date information and are consistent with provided templates and branding.
Interactive Learning: Use a variety of teaching methods such as group exercises, facilitated discussions, and self-study to enhance learning, especially in an online classroom environment.
Guest Speakers: Identify and invite guest speakers from relevant fields (government, academic, diplomatic, etc.), and manage logistics for their participation.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Area Studies Chair for planning and after-action review of the course delivery. Meetings typically take place twice per course iteration.
Student Engagement: Encourage participation and ensure students complete course evaluations, providing valuable feedback for course improvement.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master's degree is required; PhD is preferred.
Experience: Proven experience in instructional design, professional training, or academic teaching, particularly for adult learners. Experience designing and delivering online courses is a plus.
Expertise: Recognized expertise in the Caribbean region, demonstrated through prior teaching, training experience, published works, or media contributions.
Communication Skills: Strong ability to create error-free, clear, and professional course materials, and to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and personnel.
Flexibility & Independence: Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing schedules while maintaining high-quality standards.

Course Schedule:

The course runs as a 5-day, non-consecutive program that may take place either in-person or online. The upcoming course will run from January 7 - February 4, 2025.

We're looking for an instructor who can bring expertise and enthusiasm to an engaging, rewarding learning experience. If you're passionate about the Caribbean and have the expertise to share, we encourage you to apply.
