Pricing and availability (availability: think vacancy calendar) features on airbnb.com are visible, familiar and tangible to our guests. Our team owns pricing and availability end-to-end, customer-facing and backend-compute both. Pricing and availability anchors the guest booking flow from search to product page to checkout, which requires low latency, high qps, tier zero computation. We also collaborate closely with design/product to rapidly ship end-to-end product experiences with each release.

Our team is focused on quality, reliability, and simplifying natural complexity of pricing and availability. Simplify in particular - we are focused on being nimble for regular new pricing features with each release - without bloating complexity. Our team also cares deeply about culture. The Difference You Will Make:

As a Senior Engineer in Pricing and Availability, you’ll lead large projects spanning engineers, services, and products. You will transform business needs into technical requirements, drive scoping, and lead implementation while coordinating with stakeholders and peer teams. And, importantly, you’ll mentor and support engineers on our team.

At the Senior Engineer level, our engineers are responsible for building newly efficient and reusable backend components, with high quality, while also maintaining and improving performance of existing systems. Each individual brings their own unique skill set, experiences, thought leadership and technical expertise to solve these technical challenges for Airbnb. 

A Typical Day: 

• Design solutions, build, and launch for pricing and availability flows

• Provide critical input in team roadmap and technical direction.

• Build efficient and backend solutions that are reliable, performant and scalable.

• Nurture a culture of happy healthy teams including supportive feedback, technical quality, and having fun

• Collaborate with internal teams across Search, Checkout, Reservations, Host Settings, Listings, Payments, Tax, Cities, Trust and others

Your Expertise:

• 5+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment

• Demonstrated expertise and be hands-on in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team, and across teams, at Airbnb

• Passionate about efficiency, availability, system quality and user experience

• Strong programming (Scala / Python / Java/ C++ or equivalent) skills for hands-on IC work

• Passion to level-up those around you through curiosity and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
